Aaron Rodgers Should Demand a Trade

Filed in archive NFL by Kyle Smith on July 09, 2008

Brett Favre may be returning to the NFL, and if he follows through, a number of things will happen. John Maddenlinks's head will explode, ESPN's programming will be set for a month, and Viagra sales in Green Bay will wane due to the excitement of Packers fans. But here's one thing that should happen: Aaron Rodgers should ask for a trade.

Favre is already text messaging Packers GM Ted Thompson, and Rodgers should be next, with: "Wnt 2 b trded."

So if Favre does come back and play in a Packers uniform, Rodgers should do himself a favor and ask out. He's in an awful position anyway, because Pack fans will be sure to remind him over and over and over again that, in fact, he is not the Divine Quarterback of Green Bay and he never will be. Granted, the fourth-year QB didn't do himself any favors in a recent Sports Illustrated story by essentially telling fans to get on board or take a hike, but he has since backtracked.

Nonetheless, Rodgers has waited three years for his turn, and deserves a shot, if not in Green Bay, then somewhere else. Another thing to consider is this: isn't just possible that Favre's season last year was a fluke? The previous two years, with Rodgers behind him, Favre was a below average QB, combining to throw 38 TD's compared to 47 interceptions while completing just 59% of his passes.

Favre had his time, and chose to end it. And for the sake Aaron Rodgers' career, let's hope he does what he can to end the charade and get the hell out of Wisconsin.
