The Chicago Tribune reports that Rex Grossman's agent, Eugene Parker, rejected a request from Bears management to renegotiate Rex Grossman's contract. Of course, the Bears wanted a "hometown discount" to complete the deal.
Parker and Grossman said no, faster than Arnold Schwarzenegger declining a fat free yogurt.
What sense would it make, after all, for Grossman to sign a reduced-rate contract now? Grossman has nothing to gain and everything to lose by inking a new deal.
Coming off a seesaw year in his first term as full-time starting quarterback, Grossman still led the Bears to the Super Bowl, while tossing 23 touchdown passes and throwing for more than 3,000 yards.
With this year of seasoning under his belt and a solid nucleus of starters returning, Grossman should be even better this year.
Give him and the Bears another 12 wins, and Grossman will get his new deal, but Chicago won't get a discount.
