Best
- Friday Night Lights: The book this movie was based on is a remarkable read, and has as much to do with the town of Odessa, Texas as it does the game of football. The film version differs from author Buzz Bissinger's work, but it is a fantastic adaptation nonetheless.
Defining Quote: "Gentlemen, the hopes and dreams of an entire town are riding on your shoulders. You may never matter again in your life as much as you do right now." - Coach Gary Gaines
- The Program: The quintessential movie about college football. It had everything from a drunken Heisman Trophy candidate to a steroid freak to a coach who will do whatever he can to win. And they did it in uniforms that look amazingly similar to Florida State's. Coincidence?
Regent Chairman: "This is not a football vocational school. It's an institute for higher learning."
Coach Winters: "Yeah, but when was the last time 80,000 people showed up to watch a kid do a damn chemistry experiment? Why don't you stick the bow-tie up you're a*$?"
- The Longest Yard: The original, of course.
"Now here's the play we're gonna use. I don't think the guards know this formation. It's called 'incidental punishment after the ball is blown dead.' Remember, any man you tackle gets an elbow, knee, or kick in the mouth." - Granville

- North Dallas Forty: The Dallas Cowboys of the 70's are unofficially chronicled here as the North Dallas Bulls.
"This is national TV. So don't pick your noses or scratch your nuts." - Coach Johnson
- Brian's Song: This also refers to the original. Just forget that somebody bothered to do a remake.
"I love Brian Piccolo. And tonight, when you hit your knees, please ask God to love him." - Gale Sayers
- Remember The Titans: A film about racial unity, and a reminder about how young Hayden Panettiere really is.
"We will be perfect in every aspect of the game. You drop a pass, you run a mile. You miss a blocking assignment, you run a mile. You fumble the football, and i will break my foot off in your John Brown hind parts and then you will run a mile. Perfection. Let's go to work." - Coach Boone
- Rudy: Sean Astin plays Rudy, disappears, only to come back as a Hobbit. Inspirational, just like the film.
"You're 5 foot nothin', 100 and nothin', and you have barely a speck of athletic ability. And you hung in there with the best college football players in the land for 2 years. And you're gonna walk outta here with a degree from the University of Notre Dame. In this life, you don't have to prove nothin' to nobody but yourself." - Fortune
- Honorable Mention: Any Given Sunday, Varsity Blues, All The Right Moves, Necessary Roughness
Worst
- Johnny Be Good: Here's all you really need to know. Anthony Michael Hall is the nation's top football recruit. Robert Downey, Jr. and Uma Thurman are also in it.
- Backfield In Motion: Roseanne Barr and Tom Arnold "star" in this flick. Basically, Roseanne decides to play in the fathers and sons game in some podunk town.
- Garbage Picking Field Goal Kicking Philadelphia Phenomenon: Yet another fine entry in the long line of Tony Danza classics. We'll just let you read the plot summary: "A Philadelphia garbageman who develops his leg muscles from kicking the hydraulic lever on his truck is discovered by the Philadelphia Eagles and signed by them to become a kicker."
