Heading into a season in which many experts believe they'll contend for the AFC title, the San Diego Chargers have a legitimate wide receiver problem.
Although you can't tell it by head coach Norv Turner, who recently told reporters that he loves what he sees at the position. Of course, this was prior to veteran Eric Parker getting injured. Parker will miss the next 10 weeks.
Parker's most likely replacement is LSU rookie Craig Davis, who is having a nice training camp.
Other than the inexperienced Davis, San Diego will play third-year wideout Vincent Jackson, who has caught just 30 passes in two years and Malcolm Floyd, who has even fewer catches in three seasons.
So, I wonder, what's Turner excited about? This was a very average crop of receivers, prior to Parker's injury. Now, it's inexperienced and below average.
Of course, when you have MVP LaDainian Tomlinson and star tight end Antonio Gates, things begin to look much brighter.
With San Diego's best threat at receiver gone for at least the first six weeks, though, opposing defenses can prepare for just two targets.
Suddenly, the Chargers look a lot more beatable.
Someone might have to tell Norv Turner this, because he seems to be having delusions of grandeur.
