Perhaps picturing quarterback, Tony Romo, for this blog entry is a bit of a misnomer.
I believe Romo is a future superstar quarterback, so it seems appropriate to picture the Dallas Cowboys' leader, but if Dallas' first game in the Coach Wade Phillips era is any indication of what's to come, Romo certainly shouldn't have a sore arm in 2007.
Phillips' Cowboys humiliated defending Super Bowl winner, Indianapolis, 23-10, in the Pokes' preseason opener.
Romo was exactly what Phillips wants him to be – efficient. He completed 10 of 11 passes for 93 yards and no interceptions, while barely breaking a sweat.
The mark of a Wade Phillips team, though, is its ability to run the football, and five ball-carriers, including Romo, toted the mail 39 times for 133 yards and 1 touchdown. The yardage may not be impressive, but Dallas possessed the football for 14 more minutes than the Colts, which is Phillips ball at its best.
Most experts will tell you that winning in the preseason is meaningless, especially the first games, when starters are lucky to see even 10 plays.
This game and the win were critical for Wade Phillips.
Not only did Dallas whip a very good football team, the Cowboys proved they can and will run the football in 2007.
Throw in a very efficient and talented young quarterback and a solid defense, and Dallas can make a serious title run.
