In a league that harbors so many criminals (see Pacman Jones), how does a guy like Drew Brees fit into the NFL?
If you ever have a chance to catch an interview with Brees, don't miss it. This is one of the best individuals you'll ever see in sports.
Forget for a moment how remarkable of a player Brees is, and he is truly a marvelous talent. Instead, take a minute to focus on one of pro football's original good guys.
When Brees left San Diego for New Orleans, it was amazing fate that he would become the Saints quarterback, as Drew Brees is as close to a saint as the NFL or the city has.
Not only did Brees and his wife waste little time in setting up the Brees Dream Foundation, which benefits children of New Orleans, Brees spent time this off-season visiting prisoners at a county jail in Utah, just to give them a little pep talk.
This was not some media event that was arranged for publicity. Brees didn't even talk to the press; he just showed up, talked for two hours, signed some autographs and left.
Who else in the NFL does this kind of thing?
Oh, and just in case you don't know about Brees' exploits on the football field, he threw for 4,418 yards and 26 touchdowns in 2006, leading New Orleans to the NFC championship game.
What a saint.
