Fired As College Head Coach? Come To The NFL!
Filed in archive College Football by Kyle Smith on January 25, 2008

Being fired as the head coach of a college football program has got to be a tough thing. You're told you are incompetent in front of the whole world and no longer welcome. But that didn't seem to stop some guys from making the leap from college head coach to NFL assistant. It has happened a number of times this offseason.
- Former Arkansas coach Houston Nutt joined Mississippi as their head coach, replacing the fired Ed Orgeron, but the former USC assistant and recruiting whiz quickly got a job in the NFL coaching the New Orleans saints
defensive line.- Georgia Tech fired Chan Gailey and replaced him with former Navy coach Paul Johnson. However, Gailey will go to Kansas City to be the offensive coordinator of the Chiefs.
- Bill Callahan was fired about 30 seconds after the Nebraska Cornhuskers season ended, though he got a job as head coach/offense of the New York Jets
