Stuff going on around the gridiron.

- Lions running back Tatum Bell hates Mike Martz, and isn't afraid to let people know. Or blame other people for his failures. By the way, that's not him running the ball in the photo. No photos of that exist. (Detroit News)

- Running back Steven Jackson ended his holdout and will sign a new contract soon. (St. Louis Post-Dispatch)

- Troy Smith will start at QB for Baltimore in the next preseason game. Which must be thrilling for Ravens fans, who bide their time until Joe Flacco is ready. (AP)

- Panthers first-round pick Jonathan Stewart will get carries with the first team offense as he continues to rebound from his toe injury. (CarolinaGrowl.com)

- Seahawks QB Matt Hasselbeck is still having issues with his back (Seattle Times)

- Interesting news that Chris Perry would be the starting running back for Cincinnati if the season opened today. There had been glowing reports about Rudi Johnson all preseason, but he has been injured and hasn't practiced recently. (bengals.com)
