Mike Nugent is best-value fantasy football kicker

End Zone Buzz continues its Best in Fantasy Football series.
Best value kicker -- the New York Jets Mike Nugent.
During his career at Ohio State University, Mike Nugent was universally-regarded as the best kicker in college football. Nugent seemingly never missed a pressure kick.
When Nugent was drafted New York, Jets fans figured Nugent would never miss a kick. Of course, we all know he did miss. In fact, in his first season, he missed six kicks and was 0-2 outside of 50 yards. In his second season, Nugent improved his accuracy to a more Buckeye-like 89 percent, hitting on 24-27 attempts, including 2-3 from 50-plus range.
Scoring just 106 points will leave Nugent around to the very late rounds in most fantasy football drafts, making him the best value kicker.
The Jets are sure to be better this year, with the addition of Thomas Jones at running back, a healthy year from quarterback Chad Pennington and an experienced receiving corp. The Jets will move the ball consistently, which should give Nugent up to 10 more attempts. At nearly 90 percent accuracy, this translates to about 25 more points and a 130-point year.
So, let the dummies take the sexy 140-point kickers early, while you wait for Nugent, who might just outscore all of them.
