Mock NFL Draft
Filed in archive NFL Draft by Kyle Smith on April 03, 2008
1. Miami Dolphins: DE Chris Long, Virginia
- High end motor, good athlete possesses the never-quit attitude coaches love.
2. St. Louis Rams: DT Glenn Dorsey, LSU
- His recent workouts have teams excited about him once again, especially since there are fewer doubts about his medical issues.
3. Atlanta Falcons: OT Jake Long, Michigan
- True, they need a QB, but Matt Ryan has his detractors, and the Falcons need someone to open holes for Michael Turner.
4. Oakland Raiders: RB Darren McFadden, Arkansas
- Al Davis gets his man to form a new backfield with JaMarcus Russell.
5. Kansas City Chiefs: Sedrick Ellis, USC
- Kansas City has lacked a dominant DT for some time, and though offensive tackle is a priority, it is a deep position in this draft, and they can find one in the second round or possibly trade up.
6. New York Jets: OLB Vernon Gholston, Ohio State
- Could be a monster in the 3-4 alignment.
7. New England Patriots: CB Leodis McKelvin, Troy
- If the Pats stay here, McKelvin is the choice, but there has been lots of speculation that the team will try to trade out of this spot
8. Baltimore Ravens: QB Matt Ryan, Boston College
- The Ravens try again to find a franchise QB after failing with Kyle Boller.
9. Cincinnati Bengals: DE Derrick Harvey, Florida
- Cincy needs defense; they will be able to score even if Chad Johnson sits out.
10. New Orleans Saints: CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, Tennessee St.
- New Orleans solidifies a secondary that killed them last season.
11. Buffalo Bills: WR Malcolm Kelly, Oklahoma
- His stock has dropped because he hasn't worked out for scouts yet, but the Bills need a receiver in the worst way, and if he is completely healthy, Kelly's the best in this draft class.
12. Denver Broncos: OL Ryan Clady, Boise State
- Clady should be thrilled to go to Denver to learn Mike Shanahan's zone blocking scheme.
13. Carolina Panthers: OL Branden Albert, Virginia
- Great workouts have Albert moving up draft boards, and he can play either guard or tackle.
14. Chicago Bears: OT Chris Williams, Vanderbilt
- Cedric Benson needs all the help he can get.
15. Detroit Lions: LB Keith Rivers, USC
- Adding Rivers with Ernie Sims would give the Lions a great young duo.
16. Arizona Cardinals: CB Aqib Talib, Kansas
- Arizona is thin at corner, as Antrelle Rolle is likely moving to free safety in 2008.
17. Minnesota Vikings: DE Phillip Merling, Clemson
- The Vikings have not had good luck picking defensive ends, so they'll give it another shot with Merling.
18. Houston Texans: RB Rashard Mendenhall, Illinois
- Mendenhall is a back that can do it with speed or power, and can take pressure off of QB Matt Schaub and WR Andre Johnson.
19. Philadelphia Eagles: OT Jeff Otah, Pittsburgh
- Philly will soon need replacements for vets Jon Runyan and William Thomas.
20. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: CB Mike Jenkins, South Florida
- Brian Kelly moved on to Detroit, so the Bucs will try to replace him with Jenkins.
21. Washington Redskins: DE Calais Campbell, Miami
- Campbell isn't a classic speed rusher, but he's a big man (6'7", 290) who seems to be a natural playmaker.
22. Dallas Cowboys: WR Devin Thomas, Michigan State
- Wide receiver is a position of need, and Thomas brings prototypical size and speed to the position.
23. Pittsburgh Steelers: OT Gosder Cherilus, Boston College
- The Steelers will need to protect their $100 million investment in Roethlisberger.
24. Tennessee Titans: WR DeSean Jackson, California
- Vince Young gets a burner to throw to, and someone who can be a force returning punts and kicks.
25. Seattle Seahawks - TE Dustin Keller, Purdue
- The combine's workout warrior fills a large void that has been present since Jerramy Stevens left. In fact, even with Stevens, it was a bit of a void.
26. jacksonville jaguars
: DT Kentwan Balmer, North Carolina- Trading Marcus Stroud opened up a hole, and Balmer can help fix it.
27. San Diego Chargers: CB Brandon Flowers
- Not a great need, but the Chargers don't have too many. Flowers can step in and play in the nickel package right away.
28. Dallas Cowboys: RB Jonathan Stewart, Oregon
- Stewart should be relatively healthy by training camp, but Jerry Jones can take a chance because of Marion Barber's presence.
29. San Francisco 49ers: LB Jerod Mayo, Tennessee
- Follows in the footsteps of other San Fran first-round 'backers Patrick Willis and Manny Lawson.
30. Green Bay Packers: CB Justin King, Penn State
- King can add to their solid but aging stable of corners.
31. New England Patriots: Pick Forfeited
32. New York Giants: S Kenny Phillips, Miami
- Gibril Wilson left, and Sammy Knight is not a long-term solution.
