Filed in archive NFL on February 1, 2008
News and notes from around the NFL you may have missed among the Super Bowl overkill.
- Politicians used baseball for grandstanding, and now, the NFL is being used for the same purpose. Senator Arlen Specter said he will call commissioner Roger Goodell in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee to discuss "Spygate," and why those records were destroyed. Hilariously, the Republican made a comparison of those tapes to ones the C.I.A. uses: "The American people are entitled to be sure about the integrity of the game. It's analogous to the C.I.A. destruction of tapes." (New York Times)
- The NFL has said putting the Super Bowl on at church parties violates their copyright, and won't allow it. Because the NFL just doesn't have enough money. (The Washington Post)
- The owners could opt out of the current labor deal in November, meaning there would be no salary cap in the 2010 season. (Los Angeles Times)
- Former Redskins offensive coordinator Al Saunders has been hired by the Rams to direct their offense. (St. Louis Post-Dispatch)
- Over the next five years, the Buffalo Bills will play eight football games in Toronto. Five will be regular season games, and three will be preseason games. (buffalo news)
- A lot of fraudulent Super Bowl and NFL paraphernalia is being sold in Arizona, and much of it is coming from China. (Boston Herald)
