Green Bay 24, Washington 17
This contest features a Green Bay offense that averages 25 points per game against a Washington defense that allows 13 points per game, good for third-best in the NFL. The game is at Lambeau, however, and brett favre
does his best work at home. If the Packers can somehow find a way to establish what has been a porous running game, that will help open things up.Chicago 17, Minnesota 14
These two teams aren't going to light up the scoreboard, as the Bears are 22nd and the Vikings are 24th in the NFL in points scored per game, and that certainly won't change in Chicago on Sunday. Cedric Benson will have a tough go of it against the Vikings defense, but luckily for the Bears, the Vikings won't be able to throw it much with Tavaris Jackson returning to the lineup. Chicago will certainly put safety Adam Archuleta in the box to counter Vikings running back Adrian Peterson, and this one will be a classic NFC North slugfest.
San Diego 35, Oakland 17
The Chargers resurgence continues against an Oakland team that allows 25 points and 130 yards on the ground per contest. LaDainian Tomlinson and Michael Turner should eat up the Raiders on the ground. Oakland has very good corners, though, so Philip Rivers might not get much done through the air, but they'll still score points. The Raiders have been outstanding on the ground thus far, but San Diego is 10th in rushing defense. Daunte Culpepper will be forced to throw, and he could have some success against what has been an average pass defense in San Diego.
New England 35, Dallas 28
In a match-up pitting the AFC's best against the NFC's best, the AFC team pulls it out late. These are the top two scoring teams in the NFL, averaging over 35 points per game apiece, and they are also the top two teams in terms of yards per game, with each averaging over 400. It will come down to, as usual, defense and special teams. The Patriots have put out a very good defensive squad, as have the Cowboys, but the offensive firepower both sides possess will be difficult to slow down. This game will turn on a big special teams play sometime late in the game. Dallas has given up a return touchdown in each of the last two weeks.
