NFL's Worst Wide Receiver Groups

Filed in archive NFL by Kyle Smith on May 30, 2008

We've taken on the worst groups of quarterbacks. We did the same with running backs. Now, our tiny wrath will be levied against the NFL's worst wide receiver groups.

Chicago Bears: Bernard Berrian was the best among the wide outs on the Bears' roster, but he up and signed with the Minnesota Vikings in the offseason. And Chicago naturally replaces him with ... Marty Booker and Brandon Lloyd? Outside of Berrian, the Bears haven't had too much luck with draft picks at WR (unless you count Devin Hester - he's pretty good), including former 2nd round pick Mark Bradley, who had all of 6 catches last season. Hopefully, for Bears fans, rookie Earl Bennett can change that.

Kansas City Chiefs: Thank goodness for Dwayne Bowe, because the rest of the receiving corp isn't exactly noteworthy. I'll just go ahead and list them, and that should pretty much be all you need to see. Devard Darling, William Franklin, Kevin McMahan, Kevin Robinson, Bobby Sippio, and Jeff Webb. Those 6 players have a combined 46 total catches in the NFL.

Miami Dolphins: The Dolphins might not be on this list if they still had Chris Chambers. But they don't. What they do have is a still raw Ted Ginn, Jr., a decent player in Ernest Wilford, and some other guys who have yet to prove much of anything. Which is at least part of the reason the Fins grabbed the second-fewest TD receptions in the NFL in 2007.

San Francisco 49ers: The Niners do have very tall receivers on the squad, so they have that going for them. They also possess underachievers like Bryant Johnson and Ashley Lelie, both of whom still have people thinking they possess promise, despite the fact they will be going into their 6th and 7th seasons, respectively. Maybe they'll break out by year 10.

tennesseelinks Titans: As bad a passer as Vince Young is, it certainly isn't helping things that he has to throw to this bunch of receivers. Tennessee had the fewest TD passes in the league, and they are a serious threat to repeat in that category in 2008. Unless you think Mike Williams is going to live up to his status as the 10th overall pick of the draft on his third team in four years.
