Quarterback-receiver combo is overrated fantasy football strategy

Most overrated strategy - drafting a quarterback and receiver from the same NFL team.
I've competed with fantasy owners who love to draft a wide receiver and a quarterback from the same NFL team. In our basic scoring league, a player gets 6 points for a touchdown and 3 points for a touchdown pass.
Some people perceive this 9-point QB-WR combination as a bigger value than having a quarterback and receiver on different teams, even though they may score the same or more points on a given Sunday.
This is more of a misperception than a solid strategy.
Let's assume you select Carolina's Steve Smith in the first round and you counter with quarterback Jake Delhomme in the fifth round. In our basic scoring model, you'll get 9 points each time Delhomme throws a TD to Smith.
When Smith gets two TDs in one game, this is almost a guaranteed victory, as that's 18 points from just two players. Most basic scoring games end with scores in the 30s.
Now, lets' assume you draft St. Louis wide receiver Tory Holt in the first round. In the fourth round you take Philadelphia quarterback donovan mcnabb
.Holt gets the same 12 touchdowns as Smith, earning a basic scoring owner 72 points. Let's assume McNabb has a huge year and throws for 30 scores and runs for 5. Delhomme, on the other hand, may have an average year, with 22 TD passes and just 1 rushing score.
In this example, McNabb will score 120 points and Delhomme will score 72.
So, in the end, who has the better strategy? An owner with an attractive 9-point combination or an owner who scores 48 more points?
Obviously, if you could get Marvin Harrison and Peyton Manning, this would work, but unless you play in a four-team league, you probably won't be able to do this.
