Quinn creating quarterback controversy in Cleveland

Throughout the nfl draft
, Brady Quinn looked like a deer in headlights, as he dropped at least 15 spots lower in the first round than anyone believed. The Cleveland Browns finally drafted him, and Quinn subsequently held out of training camp for 11 days, as his agent asked for top five money.
When he arrived, Cleveland fans, hungry for the type of field general they haven't seen since Bernie Kosar, couldn't wait to see the mighty Quinn in action. Of course, he'd have to get out of Coach Romeo Crennel's dog house first.
Quinn didn't see the field in the Browns first preseason game.
He didn't arrive last weekend, until the fourth quarter, with the Browns trailing Detroit 23-7.
Until late in the game with Detroit, it appeared that Quinn was a first-round afterthought. He'd no doubt open the season carrying a clipboard as the Browns number 3 QB.
It became obvious Saturday night that the former Notre Dame star had other ideas.
Arriving to the Browns huddle amid a roaring ovation, Brady Quinn immediately completed a screen pass that ended in a 30-yard gain.
Just minutes later, running the two-minute offense to perfection, Quinn's first NFL drive ended in a perfectly-thrown touchdown pass, as the big, athletic quarterback avoided pressuring Lions defenders.
When the insignificant exhibition game ended, Brady Quinn had completed 13 of 20 passes for 155 yards and 2 touchdowns, in two flawless drives. Four of his incomplete passes were spikes to stop the clock.
Not only did Quinn make the Browns look ingenious for trading up to draft him, but he created a definite quarterback controversy in Cleveland, as the Browns other starters, Charlie Frye and Derek Anderson, once again looked like confused muny leaguers for most of the night.
Sure, Quinn was playing against Detroit's second and third stringers, but he was slicing them up with Cleveland's second and third stringers. Plus, no matter who you're passing against, nothing changes the poise, athleticism and accuracy that Quinn displayed, in one of the most awe-inspiring debuts in Browns history.
Someone may need to tell Romeo Crennel that his rookie quarterback has left the dog house and is ready to bark.
