The Oakland Raiders can't afford to pass on JaMarcus Russell.
Although Oakland is in dire need of a quarterback, recent talk has the Raiders taking Georgia Tech wide receiver Calvin Johnson. Oakland owner Al Davis has always been enamored of big, fast wide receivers, and Johnson is both of these.
The problem is that the Raiders have no quarterback to deliver the football to any wideout. Plus, Oakland already has Randy Moss and Ronald Curry, both very talented receivers.
Russell is a protypical NFL passer. At 6-6, 260, he's a veritable giant for the position. He has sound fundamentals and superior statistics at the college level.
Most importantly, Russell can step in and start for Oakland immediately, giving them a solid offensive core.
Unless Oakland lands a veteran like kansas city's Trent Green, highly unlikely before draft day, the Raiders would be crazy to pass on Russell.
