(11) Virginia Tech 24, Florida State 21: The Seminoles are coming off a big win at then #2 Boston College, a team the Hokies lost to just a week earlier. This is a game that will probably be low scoring, so if betting were legal, you may think about taking the under. FSU is 7th in the ACC and 78th nationally in scoring offense, while VT is 4th in the ACC and 66th nationally in the same category.
Neither offenses have had much going for them, and both have seen more than one quarterback play. For Florida State, Drew Weatherford is the man again after giving way to Xavier Lee for a few games. Meanwhile, Hokies coach Frank Beamer isn't saying who is going to start at QB for his squad. It will either be Tyrod Taylor or Sean Glennon making the start on their home field. Both teams are in the top 10 nationally against the run, which doesn't bode well for Virginia Tech's Brandon Ore or Florida State's Antoine Smith. As it is, both ball carriers are averaging under 4 yards per carry on the season.
Arkansas 35, (24) Tennessee 27: The game, which is in Knoxville
, comes down to one basic question: can Tennessee stop Arkansas' run game? The answer is no, it cannot. Neither can anyone else, for that matter. The Razorbacks feature two of the nation's best running backs in Darren McFadden and the oft overlooked Felix Jones. Arkansas has the nation's 12th ranked offense, and the 2nd ranked rushing offense. The Volunteers have not been stout against the run, as they are 9th in the SEC and 74th nationally in that category. Defense as a whole has been a problem for Tennessee, as they are second-worst in points per game allowed in the SEC, leading Kentucky by less than half a point. Already they have the worst pass defense in the SEC, but that probably won't matter much against Razorbacks QB Casey Dick. He will get most of his work just handing off to McFadden and Jones. Tennessee QB Erik Ainge is a good player who will keep it close, but Arkansas has too much offensive firepower not to come away with the victory.
Five More Predictions:
- (1) Ohio State 27, Illinois 20
- (6) Missouri 52, Texas A&M 24
- Cincinnati 28, (11) Connecticut 24
- (17) USC 35, California 27
- Miami 24, (19) Virginia 21
