Top 5 Fantasy QB's

Filed in archive Fantasy Football by Kyle Smith on July 07, 2008

As the NFL gets closer and closer, so does fantasy football. Here now is a look at the top five quarterbacks and what round they may be drafted in.

1. Tom Brady, New England Patriots: The clear number one, Brady likely won't get to 50 TD passes again, but 35-40 is a reasonable expectation. We'll see how much losing Donte Stallworth hurts, if at all, as Jabar Gaffney or Chad Jackson will replace him. Another thing to consider is right tackle Nick Kaczur, and if he will face discipline from Roger Goodell stemming from his drug arrest and subsequent involvement in a sting operation.
- Round Taken: Late first, early second

2. Peyton Manning, Indianapolis Colts: Manning had what some considered a "down" year in 2007, and he still threw for 31 TD's and over 4,000 yards. Marvin Harrison's situation bears watching, and the team lost tight end Ben Utecht, but Manning still has plenty of weapons to produce another stellar year.
- Round Taken: Second or third

3. Tony Romo, Dallas Cowboys: Romo finished second in the league with 36 TD passes last season, and he also threw for over 4,200 yards. But his 19 interceptions cost fantasy owners points, and the Cowboys options at wide receiver are limited. So if Terrell Owens or Jason Witten gets hurt, the team would likely concentrate more on pounding the ball on the ground than airing it out.
- Round Taken: Third

4. Drew Brees, New Orleans Saints: After early struggles, Brees still went on to throw for the second most yards in the league, with more than 4,400, along with 28 TD's and 18 interceptions. His 652 pass attempts were 74 more than any other QB, and if Sean Payton continues to attack through the air with that much regularity, Brees will put up numbers.
- Round Taken: Fifth

5. Carson Palmer, Cincinnati Bengals: Most people would probably put Ben Roethlisberger or Matt Hasselbecklinks here, but the 28-year-old Palmer remains the prime of his career, and he still has weapons like Chad Johnson (albeit a disgruntled Johnson) and T.J. Houshmandzadeh at wide receiver. Chalk up last year to a bad season and steal him in a later round.
- Round Taken: Sixth
