Trent Green may have last laugh on Kansas City
Filed in archive by Mark Barnes on August 17, 2007

The old saying goes, "He who laughs last laughs best," and Trent Green may be the perfect model of this cliche, when the 2007 NFL season is all said and done.
This off-season, Green's former team, the Kansas City Chiefs
, treated the veteran quarterback, as if he were a media spy, feeding Green disinformation and constant lies. All Green wanted was to know his standing with the Chiefs. Green missed almost all of the 2006 season, after a devastating head injury, and KC brass obviously felt he would not be ready to return in 2007.
Rather than treating Green like the gentleman that he is, Chiefs owner, Carl Peterson, strung Green along, while the Chiefs waited for the NFL draft and better options.
Meanwhile, Miami showed interest in Green, and they were eager to sign the lame duck QB.
When all was said and done, Green did land in Miami. The poor treatment is behind him, and he has a fresh start with the Dolphins, who jettisoned their own injury-prone starter, Daunte Culpepper.
Now, it seems, Green may have the last laugh.
Green is healthy and played very well in Miami's second preseason game, which was, ironically, against the Chiefs.
Meanwhile, KC has plenty of problems. Not only is star tailback, Larry Johnson, embroiled in a bitter holdout, the Chiefs are struggling to settle what could have been a very stable quarterback position, had they just treated Green properly.
Now, Kansas City will have Damon Huard or Brody Croyle. This is tantamount to car shopping and having to decide on a Yugo and a VW bug.
So, KC will putter along with below-average quarterbacking, while the Dolphins will zoom ahead with one of the NFL's most talented passers.
And, when the 2007 season ends, Trent Green will likely be the one laughing.
