Updated NFL Mock Draft
We continue our look at the 2008 NFL Draft with an updated mock, influenced by recent free agent signings and various pro days around the country.

1. Miami Dolphins - DE Chris Long, Virginia
- Howie's kid represents the type of attitude that Bill Parcells wants to rebuild the team around.

2. St. Louis Rams - DE/OLB Vernon Gholston, Ohio State
- Gholston had a monster pro day, running his 40-yard dash in under 4.6 seconds, and a number of outlets are reporting that the Rams are very interested in acquiring his services.

3. Atlanta Falcons - QB Matt Ryan, Boston College
- This fact bears repeating: the only QB's on the Falcons roster right now are D.J. Shockley, Joey Harrington and Chris Redman

4. Dallas Cowboys (From OAK) - RB Darren McFadden, Arkansas
- Not wanting to pay the hefty price tag of the number four overall pick, Oakland receives both of Dallas' first rounders in exchange for the rights to pair up McFadden with Marion Barber.

5. Kansas City Chiefs - OT Jake Long, Michigan
- The Chiefs get their wish and Long falls to them at number five.

6. New York Jets - DT Sedrick Ellis, USC
- New York already has a new nose tackle in Kris Jenkins, but Ellis could fit nicely as a 3-4 DE.

7. New England Patriots - CB Leodis McKelvin, Troy
- Belichick and company simply must acquire a corner as they lost both Asante Samuel and Randall Gay to free agency.

8. Baltimore Ravens - DT Glenn Dorsey, LSU
- Dorsey pairs with former first round DT Haloti Ngata to create a new dominant pair inside.

9. Cincinnati Bengals - DE Derrick Harvey, Florida
- Justin Smith signed with San Francisco, and though the Bengals did sign Antwan Odom, they could still use another bookend.

10. New Orleans Saints - DT Kentwan Balmer, North Carolina
- What the team needs more than anything else is a solid DT, so they reach a bit for Balmer.

11. Buffalo Bills - WR Malcolm Kelly, Oklahoma
- Buffalo has a lot of wide receivers, but other than Lee Evans, they don't have any impact players at that position.

12. Denver Broncos - OT Ryan Clady, Boise State
- Devoid of many offensive tackles, the Broncos desperately need blockers on the edges of the O-Line.

13. Carolina Panthers - OT Chris Williams, Vanderbilt
- Carolina re-signed Trevelle Wharton and Jordan Gross, but may move Wharton inside to guard. If that is the case, Williams makes sense.

14. Chicago Bears - OT Jeff Otah, Pittsburgh
- The Bears make it three offensive tackles in a row because they do not want to go into the season with John St. Clair starting anywhere on the offensive line, much less tackle.

15. Detroit Lions - LB Keith Rivers, USC
- Detroit lost Boss Bailey to Denver and lacks much depth at the position. Combining Rivers with former first round selection Ernie Sims gives them an athletic, attacking duo.

16. Arizona Cardinals - RB Rashard Mendenhall, Illinois
- Edgerrin James is nearing the age running backs go to die (30), and Mendenhall would be a great fit in coach Ken Whisenhunt's power running offense.

17. Minnesota Vikings - DE Phillip Merling, Clemson
- Defensive end has been a problem for quite some time in Minnesota, so the Vikings need another one even after addressing this position with previous first round picks.

18. Houston Texanslinks - CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, Tenn. St.
- Even though they overpaid for CB Jacques Reeves, the Texans have a need here, and everyone is falling in love with the potential of the small school star.

19. Philadelphia Eagles - WR Limas Sweed, Texas - The Eagles need help at wideout, and Sweed is a big receiver that can change a game with his size and speed.

20. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - CB Aqib Talib, Kansas
- After losing Brian Kelly to Detroit, the Bucs need another player at corner. While he can get burned at times because he gambles, Talib is a big corner that makes plays.

21. Washington Redskins - DE Calais Campbell, Miami
- The 'Skins need fresh blood at DE because Phillip Daniels is in his 13th year and only collected 2.5 sacks in 2007.

22. Oakland Raiders (From DAL) - WR DeSean Jackson, Cal
- Al Davis loves speed at wide receiver. Jackson can supply that and then some.

23. Pittsburgh Steelers - G Branden Albert, Virginia
- Losing Alan Faneca hurts, but Albert should prove to be a fine replacement.

24. Tennessee Titans - CB Mike Jenkins, South Florida
- Jenkins stock has gone up and down, and he is probably hurt the most by the rise of Rodgers-Cromartie. Still, Tennessee needs help at corner, and Jenkins can provide that.

25. Seattle Seahawks - TE Fred Davis, USC
- With no legit playmaking tight end on the squad, Seattle can feel free to take Davis, the number one player at the position.

26. Jacksonville Jaguars - DT Pat Sims, Auburn
- The Jags traded DT Marcus Stroud, and unless they think Jimmy Kennedy is going to be a good replacement (he's not, by the way - trust me), then Sims should be the guy.

27. San Diego Chargers - CB Brandon Flowers, Virginia Tech
- The last corner they took in the first round turned out okay, and Flowers can step right in and play nickel back for San Diego.

28. Oakland Raiders (from DAL) - OLB Jerod May0, Tennessee
- Mayo fills a need at OLB for Oakland to play alongside MLB Kirk Morrison.

29. San Francisco 49ers - WR Devin Thomas, Michigan State
- Despite signing WR Isaac Bruce, the Niners could use a big receiver in the mold of Thomas.

30. Green Bay Packers - TE Dustin Keller, Purdue
- Keller saw his stock shoot up with a lights out performance at the combine, and his athleticism should fit right in with the Packers passing game.

31. New England Patriots - Pick Forfeited

32. New York Giants - S Kenny Phillips, Miami
- Gibril Wilson is gone, and even though the team signed Sammy Knight, he'll be 33 at the start of the season.
