Vick is no dog breeder; is he a quarterback?

Recent reports of Atlanta quarterback Michael Vick being connected to dog breeding and dog fighting are likely of very little concern to the Atlanta Falcons
.In fact, when asked about the report that fighting dogs were found on one of Vick's homes, Falcons coach Bobby Petrino only commented about his quarterback's off-season workout regimen.
This is not to make light of a reckless situation, if Vick is indeed found to be involved, but at this point, there's very little evidence that he has any knowledge of this situation. Petrino and the Falcons, though, do need to remain squarely focused on improving the performance of Vick. The athletic quarterback is light years away from living up to expectations that had him doing everything short of donning a cape and flying 100 yards into the endzone every Sunday, when Vick entered the NFL as the first player taken in 2001.
To say Vick has underachieved is sort of like saying Dick Cheney's approval rating is slightly off.
In six NFL seasons, Vick has completed just 53.8% of his passes. He's thrown only 71 touchdowns (Peyton Manning does this in about a season and a half). Michael Vick's career passer rating is a paltry 75.7.
Of course, naysayers will say that what Vick lacks in passing ability, he certainly makes up with his legs. Vick ran for an amazing 1,039 yards last season, and he has nearly 4,000 yards rushing in his career. There are a lot of starting running backs in the NFL with lesser statistics.
What Atlanta's brass and hopefully Bobby Petrino realize is that tailbacks run and quarterbacks throw. Peyton Manning ran for 1,000 fewer yards than Vick a year ago, and all Manning did was lead his Indianapolis Colts to a Super Bowl title.
It's time for Vick to be less LaDainian Tomlinson and more Peyton Manning. Of course, the Falcons would probably be happy if Vick were more Eli Manning.
Michael Vick may not be a dog breeder, but unfortunately for the Falcons, he hasn't been much of an NFL quarterback, either.
At least, not yet.
