Vince Young among bizarre fantasy football picks
Filed in archive Fantasy Football by Mark Barnes on September 3, 2007

Former Texas star and current Tennessee Titans quarterback, Vince Young, looks to have a very bright future in the NFL.
As far as fantasy football goes, however, Young is nothing but an uncertainty. Don't tell this to one fantasy football owner in my 14-team, basic-scoring league, which had its 2007 draft this weekend.
In a league that values running backs among all others, one owner took Young with his second pick. It was even more shocking that he selected him over proven passers like Carson Palmer, Drew Brees and Marc Bulger.
Fantasy football is always filled with plenty of guesswork. This guesswork, though, needs to be grounded in some sort of firm draft plan. Some have it, others do not.
Here are a few other head-scratching decisions I noticed in my fantasy football league draft.
Reggie Bush was taken in round 1, ahead of Maurice Jones-Drew, Travis Henry and Terrell Owens. Bush has potential, while these other players have all scored double-digit TDs in one season already. It's always better to go with promise over potential.
Chad Johnson was the second receiver taken. Johnson is a fine wideout, no doubt, but in a touchdown-only league, he's no better than the tenth-best selection at this position. Hell, Johnson's not even the best TD receiver on his own Bengals team.
Carnell Williams in round 3. Williams is still living on 8 games from his rookie season. After that, he's been absolutely awful. Edgerrin James
and Clinton Portis were still on the board, when Williams was taken.A kicker was taken in round 4. Place-kickers are a dime a dozen. You can get a 100-point kicker in round 8 and beyond very easily. Why anyone would waste an early selection on a kicker is one of the great mysteries of fantasy football.
As I said, much of this is guesswork. We'll revisit it at the midway point to see who guesses right.
