Week 14 of the NFL season was one of the worst in recent memory. Nearly every game stunk worse than a room full of homeless people. There were only three games that weren't competitively awful – Dallas beating Detroit in the final seconds, San Diego downing Tennessee in overtime, and the Giants hanging on against the Eagles.
There were two other games that were relatively close, but were poorly played (and coached). The Cincinnati Bengals beat the St. Louis Rams 19-10 in a game that was played in non-stop rain and featured four times as many turnovers as offensive touchdowns. It was also raining in New York as the Jets fell to Cleveland 24-18, in a game that Jets coach Eric Mangini turned into an onside kick extravaganza.
Other than that, here were your final scores from Sunday's contests: 38-17, 38-7, 37-6, 28-14, 27-7, 42-21, 41-7, 34-13 and 44-20. That's an average beatdown of 37-12.
So what's the common thread? In the 15 games played so far this week, 11 of the losing teams either started or finished the game without their week one starting quarterback, and four teams had their third string QB in at least part of the time.
