Week 5 of the NFL means the fifth week of fantasy action. EZB is here to lend you a hand in the best match-ups of the week.
QB – Donovan McNabb: The Philly signal-caller is having a very good season, throwing for 1,100 yards, six TDs and just two INTs while accumulating a passer rating of 95.7. This week, the Eagles take on the Washington Redskins in Philadelphia. The Redskins have not played great against the pass this season, ranking 23rd by allowing 223 yards per game through the air. They have also given up six TD passes on the season, which ranks them 26th in the league. Though Eagles running back Brian Westbrook, should be able to play, there is no telling if his injured ankle will allow him to play the whole game, possibly setting up McNabb for a big day.
RB – LaDainian Tomlinson: LT has not been bad this season, but he hasn't shown to be the guy fantasy owners took with the first overall selection. He is averaging just 3.8 yards per carry with four TDs. But up against the Miami Dolphins, things will change. It isn't because the Dolphins' run defense has been bad – in fact it's been quite good. But they have not yet faced an elite running back, or even one that could be called better than average right now. Miami faced off against the Jets and Thomas Jones, the Cardinals and an aging Edgerrin James, and a New England team that they took a big early lead on and forced to pass. That shouldn't happen Sunday, as the Chargers and Philip Rivers should get an early lead through the air, allowing LT to do his thing.
WR – Calvin Johnson The player nicknamed Megatron has 17 catches for 276 yards and two TDs on the season. The Lions go up against the Bears on Sunday, and both of their starting corners – Nathan Vasher and Charles Tillman – are banged up, though they say they'll play. Also, pass rushing threat Tommie Harris is suspended for the game, which will only help. Chicago has given up the third-most receptions in the NFL, and are 28th in receiving yards allowed per game. All of this, and Detroit coaches have said they need to start throwing more to set up their poor running game. All of this means Johnson could have a very good day.
