Williams hopes to trade pot pipe for NFL play
Miami Dolphins running back Ricky Williams says he's finished with marijuanalinks.

After a one-year ban from the NFL for multiple positive marijuana tests, the pro bowl runner claims he's ready to abandon his pot pipes and joints for another shot at NFL defenders and possibly with the Dolphins.

But are the Dolphins, the NFL and pro football fans to believe that if Williams does indeed return he'll be the same back who has rushed for over 7,000 yards? After all, this is a man who once said he'd rather smoke marijuana than make millions playing professional football.

Williams still owes the Dolphins $5 million in salary, yet each time he opens his mouth, he shows little interest in the debt.

While away from the NFL, he's spent much of his time living in monastery-like conditions as a faith healer and yoga instructor in Sierra Nevada. Sure, Williams claims this lifestyle has balanced him and given him clarity of thought. Most importantly, he declares, it's taken him away from marijuana, which he, of course, used medicinally to relieve the stress of the NFL.

Speaking of this stress, Ricky Williams, a workhorse of a runner, says he believes much of the stress he's suffered making millions in the NFL and smoking pot was brought on by bad coaches who wanted him to carry the football 30 times per game.

Wait a minute. Is it crazy to think that multi-million-dollar NFL running backs should carry the football?

There's certainly much more to this story and to Ricky Williams.

This has to be enough, though, to give the Miami Dolphins and the NFL a moment of pause.
